Local moves are billed hourly per crew, with a two- to three-hour minimum. Long-distance is billed by weight and distance, which is a completely different pricing model.
The most common mistake is hiring too few movers. Two movers at $110/hour taking six hours costs more than three movers at $150/hour taking three and a half.
Labor-only crews — you rent the truck or pod, they load and unload — are usually the cheapest legitimate option for a local move.
